There is no agreement about how the word cocktail came to be, but the most intriguing version of the story involves an American tavern owner who used rooster feathers (called “cocktails”) during the Revolutionary War. Caipirinha is best served in a low glass with a thick bottom and a slice of lime on top. When making this cocktail, make sure to add the ingredients in the correct order: first, smash the lime pieces with the peel and sugar in the bottom of the bottle, then add the ice cubes, and finally pour the cachaça over them.
