I love ice cream! Let me say it again… I LOVE ice cream. It’s just the best. It can be in a tub, on a stick, in a wafer or even with some other equally sugar and fat loaded dessert. Yep, as I said. It’s the best… but it’s not that healthy. Cue this delicious Greek yogurt chocolate hazelnut mousse…
Greek Yogurt Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse
Now, you’ll note that I haven’t used the adjective “healthy” when describing this recipe. Well, it does have chocolate as an ingredient, right? Although yummy, chocolate too has a little too much sugar to be described as healthy. Wouldn’t it be great if the Healthy Food Police all of a sudden published the latest diet with a headline something like this…

Well, let’s face it, it’s not going to happen. However, substituting cream for Greek yogurt does help little. This Greek yogurt chocolate hazelnut mousse is around half the calories than the equivalent chocolate and hazelnut ice cream and far less cholesterol.
For all you ice cream fans out there, therefore, I give you Greek yogurt chocolate hazelnut mousse as a somewhat healthier alternative to ice cream ????.
1. Gather the ingredients together
There are only 6 ingredients in this sweet sensation. Greek yogurt, chocolate, hazelnuts, honey, milk and vanilla essence. You can add a strawberry or raspberry as a nice garnish if you wish but this really is optional.

2. Melt the chocolate
The first thing to do when making this Greek yogurt chocolate hazelnut mousse is to melt the chocolate chip into the milk. I’ve used milk chocolate chips simply because I like them but this recipe works equally well with semi-sweet or dark chocolate.
Pour the milk into a saucepan and put it on low heat. Do not boil the milk. As the milk starts to heat add the chocolate and, whilst continually stirring the milk, melt the chocolate into the milk. Again, keep the heat low and remove from the heat of you see any sign of boiling.
Once all of the chocolate has melted transfer the chocolatey milk into a mixing bowl and set aside for 5 minutes.
3. Mix the Greek yoghurt and chocolate mousse
After the chocolate milk has cooled for 5 minutes add the remaining ingredients. The yogurt, honey, vanilla essence and hazelnuts.
Mix all of this together until there are no lumps, apart from the hazelnuts obviously.

4. Pour the mousse mixture
Now, simply pour the mousse mixture into small ramekins or even coffee cups. Whatever it is you want to serve the mousse in later.
Finally, sprinkle a few chopped hazelnuts on top.
5. Chill the mousse and serve
This Greek yogurt chocolate hazelnut mousse can be chilled in the fridge only if you like. It will set and still be quite soft in the middle. It’s absolutely fine though but needs time. I recommend chilling overnight if you can, or for a good 6-8 hours.
I wanted to serve this a frozen alternative to ice cream, however, and placing the Greek yogurt chocolate hazelnut mousse in the freezer for a couple of hours firms up the mousse and makes creamy inside. Yum!
And that’s it my calories cautious friends. Greek yogurt chocolate hazelnut mousse. A delicious frozen dessert and a fantastic healthy alternative to ice cream. Serve it to your friends at the end of a dinner party or just munch on it in front of the TV. Guilt-free sweet pleasure made right in your own kitchen. Yum!
