Hazelnut and chocolate smothered strawberries. What a delicious treat for all. What’s more, it not only hazelnuts that can be used. For those of you with a keen eye, you’ll see a couple of strawberries below that look like they’re covered with snow. Well, that’s desiccated coconut my friends. Almonds could also be tried or even more sweet ingredients like hundreds and thousands. You could even have simple just plain chocolate. Whatever is used, however, they are just yummy!
These beauties are so easy to make. Just 2 ingredients, 3 if you want white chocolate too, plus whatever coating you desire. Let’s make some…
1. Get the ingredients together
As mentioned above. The ingredients are very simple. Just Strawberries. Get the ones with long stems if you can. They’re just easier to pick up. good quality cooking chocolate and chopped hazelnuts.
2. Melt the chocolate
It’s key not to burn the chocolate. The easiest way to burn chocolate is to try and melt it from a saucepan directly on the stove. The way to get around this is to place some water in a saucepan and then place the chocolate in a bowl that is larger than the saucepan. Place the bowl with the chocolate in on top of the saucepan making sure the below and water do not touch.
Now, heat the saucepan with the water in slowly and the chocolate will melt. Just keep stirring it. This is called a basic bain-marie.
Now it’s time to dip the strawberries.
3. Dip and finish the hazelnut and chocolate smothered strawberries
With the strawberries washed and ready and the chocolate melted you are ready for dipping. Just make sure the strawberries are patted dry. Water and chocolate don’t and will ruin the chocolate.
First, set up a little production line with the strawberries, chocolate and topping all in the row. In addition, get a tray and line it with baking paper ready to receive the strawberries. Now, start by dipping a strawberry in the chocolate.
Follow this by dipping the chocolate smothered strawberry in the nuts.
Place the dipped strawberry on the baking paper covered tray.
Finally, and as soon as all of the strawberries have been coated, place in the fridge for around an hour, so the chocolate can set.
And it’s as simple as that folks. Melt the chocolate. Dip the strawberries in the chocolate. Dip the chocolate smothered strawberries in chopped hazelnuts. Whoever said tasteful bliss had to be difficult. Make a load of them and get your friends round for a fruity chocolaty nibble. Yum!
